The rise of the Internet

The internet's continuing rise in popularity is affecting all aspects of media. Television shows broadcast by the major commercial stations can be streamed over the internet, which has already begun to affect ratings numbers and, in turn, advertising revenues. While downloading music illegally has been curbed in the past few years, I think it is a matter of time before another way to "beat the system" emerges. Tracking what happens on the internet is extremely difficult, so the popularity of pirated movies is probably going to skyrocket. It's cool that the internet allows us to have access to so many forms of media at once, but problems with advertising revenue and copyright infringment could easily arise if the internet is not monitored carefully.
